FAQ

What is this?

  • I select a thematically appropriate horror movie for each day of the year and tell you about it.

Why?

  • It seemed like a good idea at the time.

How do you get to decide what qualifies as a horror movie and where each one goes on the calendar?

  • I am the Mayor of Horror Movies.

Are all these movies good?

  • Oh gosh no.  But I recommend all of them to  the adventurous viewer.

What’s with the CWs?

  • In horror movies, disturbing material is part of the entertainment package. But for some viewers, elements like sexual violence or bigotry ruin the fun.  For those folks, I include content warnings.  That said, the warnings are based on my personal reactions and should not be expected to cover all potential cinematic skeeviness, so proceed with caution.

Who are you, aside from the mayor?

  • I’m Shaenon K. Garrity.  I’m mostly a cartoonist.  I watch a lot of scary movies while I draw cartoons.

There is -so- much that I love about this movie. The visuals of the comet, the space travel there & the alien spacecraft were all cool. I -really- liked that -even tho the ‘space gal’ wandered around naked for most of her time on screen- that it was done in a way that was not sexualized on HER part. TBH it was cool to see her walk along without a stitch on – and especially squicky when she walked over the broken glass, several times.

Plus the idea that she was doing this to 100% mess with the humans and distract attention away from her colleagues was the best!

IMO it was an completely excellent movie [even with the Patrick Stewart kiss scene] … until it turned into SUDDENLY ZOMBIES.

“SUDDENLY ZOMBIES” would be a great movie title.

.. maybe it is .. *checks*

And when you have a RPG campaign with Edmund Halley as an influential NPC, the premise creates an instant scenario. Heh, heh, heh.

This was the first horror movie I’d ever seen that unintentionally made me laugh. Not sure it would make me laugh harder if it was MST3K-ed. Except that would be hard to do with all the nudity.

Decades after seeing it in (God help me) the theatre, a co-worker and I noticed the spaceship looks a lot like a dead echinacea flower.

As of October 15, 2018, this movie is on Amazon Prime (watching now). So far, so good!
